IDH Sustainable Trade Initiative
India
As part of the Women Safety Accelerator Fund (WSAF) initiative supported by IDH, a series of capacity-building workshops were conducted to strengthen community-based responses to violence against women in Assam’s tea plantations. Designed as safe, participatory spaces, the workshops brought together local women leaders, community workers, and grassroots facilitators to build legal literacy, explore the intersection of gender norms and violence, and map support systems for survivors.
The program combined personal storytelling, peer learning, and rights-based training to deepen understanding of the systemic drivers of violence and empower participants to act as local change agents. Emphasizing the creation of ongoing learning communities, the workshops aimed to equip women with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to challenge harmful norms, support affected individuals, and advocate for safer, more equitable communities.
